Princess Eugenie welcomes her second child, a baby boy, amid celebrations

Princess Eugenie, the granddaughter of late Queen Elizabeth II, and her husband Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their second child, a son, on 30th May. The princess, who named her baby boy Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, shared her joyous news on Instagram, along with a picture of Ernest, her eldest son August, and husband Jack. The newest member of the royal family, who weighed 7lb 1oz at birth, is 13th in line to the throne.

A tender tribute to the family members with unique names

Eugenie gave a loving tribute to the infant’s great-great-great grandfather, King George V, who also had Ernest as a middle name, and to Mr Brooksbank’s father George, who died last year and to Eugenie’s grandfather Ronald. Ernest’s arrival coincided with the coronation of his great-grandfather, the late Queen’s eldest son, Prince Charles. The baby boy’s middle name came from Mr Brooksbank’s father, while his other middle name ‘Ronnie’ is dedicated to Eugenie’s grandfather, Major Ronald Ferguson.

August lovingly welcomes his baby brother

Eugenie also mentioned that August is enjoying being a loving elder brother to the newborn. The princess had shared the news of her pregnancy on Instagram last January with a photograph in which August was shown kissing her baby bump. August was born on February 9, 2021, at an exclusive hospital in central London, and attended the Platinum Jubilee pageants alongside his mother.

Eugenie and Jack, a perfect couple

Eugenie and Jack married in a grand ceremony in the gothic surroundings of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in October 2018. Brooksbank is the European brand director of Casamigos Tequila, and he and Eugenie had mutual friends to thank for their meeting each other during a ski trip to Verbier. Eugenie, meanwhile, is a director at the contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth in London. The couple attended Prince Charles’ coronation ceremony last month with Eugenie’s father, the Duke of York, who had stepped down from royal duties after his controversial Newsnight interview and the controversy surrounding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Final thoughts

From the moment Eugenie announced her pregnancy with baby number two, the world was excited to witness her family expanding once again. The warm-hearted tribute to the family members by Eugenie has touched many hearts, while the arrival of Ernest during the coronation year has indeed caused excitement. This new edition to the family may, perhaps, bring joy and light to the family among all the controversies. The world is hoping to see August and Ernest grow up together and share beautiful brotherly moments.
