British Soap Awards 2023: Coronation Street wins big

The British Soap Awards is an annual event that honours the best moments in British soap operas. This year, Coronation Street took home the most awards, winning six gongs, including Best Single Episode and Scene of the Year for its acid attack storyline. EastEnders won four awards, including the coveted Best Soap category. Hollyoaks took home two awards, while Emmerdale and Doctors won one each.

The Event

The star-studded event took place at The Lowry in Salford on Saturday 3 June. However, it was not televised until a few days later. One of the biggest talking points was the decision of Phillip Schofield to step down from hosting duties. With little time to spare before the event, singer and TV presenter Jane McDonald took over the reins in his absence.

• Best Young Performer: Lillia Turner (Lily Slater) – EastEnders
• Outstanding Achievement Award: Mark Charnock (who stars as Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale)
• Best Newcomer: Channique Sterling-Brown (Dee-Dee Bailey) – Coronation Street
• The Tony Warren Award: Peter Hunt – Hollyoaks casting director
• Best Family: The Platts – Coronation Street
• Best Leading Performer: Danielle Harold (Lola Pearce-Brown) – EastEnders
• Best British Soap: EastEnders
