Never Have I Ever season 4: A Review
Never Have I Ever season four has arrived on Netflix, and fans have been eagerly waiting to see the continuation of Devi Vishwakumra’s journey. The previous seasons followed Devi’s struggles to cope with her father’s sudden death and her desire to find a boyfriend and secure a place at Princeton. In season four, Devi has finally matured, and her emotional wellbeing takes center stage. However, despite some positive developments, season four is an underwhelming continuation of the previous seasons, leaving fans disappointed.
Devi’s Character Development
In season four, we see a new and improved Devi, who has learned to channel her fiery emotions constructively. She no longer has a loaded grenade ready to go off at the slightest argument, but she still makes mistakes. Devi’s character development is undoubtedly the highlight of the season, as the audience has been invested in her growth since the show’s inception. We get to see Devi become more mature, and her newfound emotional stability filters into her relationships with others.
Lack of Drama
Unfortunately, with Devi’s newfound maturity, the show loses some of the drama and tension that made the previous seasons enjoyable. The swift resolution of conflicts reduces the stakes, and we are left craving more impact. Additionally, the show fails to create new areas to generate dramatic tension, rendering the season flat. The predictable outcomes, both in Devi’s love life and her quest to get into college, only add to the predictability issue, creating an emotional disconnection for viewers.
The Characters Remain Loveable
Despite the underwhelming storyline, the characters’ quirks and idiosyncrasies make them as loveable and relatable as they have been since season one. Their individual journeys remain meaningful and aligned with their personalities. Although the expected outcome is unsatisfying, where the characters end up still feels satisfactory.
Conclusion: A Disappointing Continuation
Never Have I Ever season four is a disappointing continuation of the previous seasons. Although Devi’s character development is a highlight, the lack of drama and the predictability of the outcomes left fans disappointed. The show fails to evoke the same level of emotional connection as it did in the previous seasons. While the loveable and relatable characters remain, the story’s flat line ultimately falls below fans’ expectations of the popular show.
