Liverpool signs Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for a Significantly Lower Fee
Liverpool Football Club has agreed to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee that is significantly lower than the previously reported £60m, subject to him passing a medical test. According to reports, Liverpool will pay the buyout clause in Mac Allister’s contract, which has two more seasons to run, with an optional one-year extension for the club. The deal will secure Mac Allister’s services until June 2028.
The New Signing and Liverpool‘s Midfield Rebuild
The Argentinian midfielder, who made his debut for Brighton in March 2020, will likely be Liverpool‘s first signing since hiring Jörg Schmadtke as their sporting director for the summer transfer window. Schmadtke seems keen to rebuild the team’s midfield, and Mac Allister is undoubtedly a talented addition to Liverpool‘s midfield.
Jürgen Klopp’s Other Targets for the Midfield Position
Liverpool has reportedly turned to three other targets to continue their midfield rebuild, with Frenchmen Manu Koné and Khéphren Thuram, as well as Celta’s Gabri Veiga all on Klopp’s list. Thuram and Veiga are both young talents with bright futures, while Koné is making a name for himself in Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Editorial: Why Liverpool Opted for Mac Allister
It is interesting to note that Liverpool went for Mac Allister instead of pursuing other high-profile transfers. Mac Allister’s statistics, particularly his ability to play in tight spaces and deliver key passes, suggest that he will be a good fit for Klopp’s pressing-oriented team. However, only time will tell whether this transfer will turn out to be a steal or a disappointment for Liverpool.
Advice for Brighton and Liverpool Fans
For Brighton fans, the signing of two experienced players in James Milner and Mo Dahoud will offset the loss of talented midfielder Mac Allister. On the other hand, Liverpool fans will be eager to see how the new signing will fit in Klopp’s midfield and whether he can justify the long-term contract that the club has offered him.
