Novak Djokovic Claims 23rd Grand Slam Title at French Open 2023

Novak Djokovic has once again shown his greatness, this time by winning his 23rd Grand Slam title against Norway’s Casper Ruud in the French Open final, breaking the tie with Rafael Nadal for the most men’s Grand Slam titles. Though the Serbian player wasn’t at his best initially, his quality in a first-set tie-break laid the foundation for a 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 7-5 win. Djokovic‘s victory makes him the first man to win all four majors at least three times, and moves him ahead of Nadal for the most men’s majors. The win also places him alongside Serena Williams, with only Margaret Court in front of him with 24 majors.

A Date with Destiny Fulfilled

Djokovic had made it his ambition to win more major titles than Federer and Nadal. He pulled level with the pair on 20 triumphs at Wimbledon in 2021, but fell behind Nadal after missing the 2022 Australian Open due to a row over his Covid-19 vaccination status that led to him being deported. While Nadal further extended the lead by winning last year’s French Open, Djokovic has surged ahead after winning three of the past four Grand Slams.

Even before 14-time French Open champion Nadal pulled out of this year’s tournament with injury, Djokovic was considered by many to be the favorite – even though his own build-up had been hampered by physical problems. By winning the French Open, Djokovic completes his major title collection and places himself in a strong position to equal Federer’s record tally of men’s titles at Wimbledon next month, a place where he has already won seven times and will be the favorite to win again.

A Winning Machine with a Strong Claim to be the Greatest of All Time

Novak Djokovic has definitely proved himself to be a winning machine, with a strong claim to be the greatest male tennis player of all time. His amazing longevity is a relief for the rest of the tour, as he continues to break records and shows no signs of stopping any time
