How Sam Smith Turned a Disability into a Winning Weapon on The Traitors
An Unexpected Opportunity

Sam’s journey with MS began during his paternity leave after the birth of his first son. Losing sensation in his arm and leg led to a diagnosis of the chronic disease. His struggles continued when he experienced another MS attack and developed optic neuritis, which rendered him legally blind. These challenges forced Sam to give up his profession as a dentist. Despite the difficulties, Sam has embraced his role as an ambassador for MS Auckland, advocating for awareness and support. His participation in The Traitors served as a testament to his resilience and determination to lead a normal life.
A Unique Bond with Anna
During the show, Sam formed a special connection with Anna Reeve, who also had a disability, alopecia. Both conditions are autoimmune disorders, and Sam believes that their shared experiences contributed to their triumphant journey on The Traitors. Sam and Anna continue to maintain a strong bond, reflecting on their victory and cherishing the support they provided each other during their time on the show.
A Message of Inspiration
Sam’s triumph on The Traitors is not just a personal victory, but also an inspiration to others. He is determined to raise awareness about MS and show that individuals with disabilities can lead fulfilling and functional lives.
