Tyson Fury tipped for crossover fight success
Introduction
Legendary UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has claimed that Tyson Fury could enjoy the same financial success as Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather through a crossover bout. Fury has been openly discussing the possibility of a fight with his UFC counterpart Jon Jones, and Francis Ngannou, the former heavyweight champion who never lost the belt, has also expressed interest in getting in the ring with the British boxing champion.
Financial Rewards
Bisping believes that Fury could earn a significant sum of money from a crossover fight, as McGregor and Mayweather both pocketed over $100 million in their clash in the summer of 2017. However, Fury and Jones have yet to prove themselves as the financial draws that McGregor and Mayweather are. Fury has tipped the million buys mark once in his 2020 rematch with Deontay Wilder, while Jones has never touched that number as a headliner.
The Likelihood of the Fight
Bisping admits that it would be difficult to make such a fight happen, considering how hard it has been to get Fury in the ring with Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua. Similarly, Usyk should be the fight for Jon Jones, but Bisping admits he would love to see the fight happen, calling himself intrigued.
The Possibility of Fury in UFC
Although the meeting of two superstars in such a crossover bout could be a tremendous success story, Fury has completely rubbished the idea of participating in an MMA bout, despite several calls by UFC President Dana White. Fury believes that it is better for him to prove himself the “baddest man on the planet” in the boxing ring.
Expert Opinion
Nonetheless, Bisping believes that Fury would have difficulty in the octagon since Fury is “not going to have a chance in hell, no way” in a mixed martial arts contest. Bisping believes Fury is a powerful man but acknowledged that it would be difficult for him.
Conclusion
While it is thrilling to entertain the prospect of the financial benefits of a crossover fight between Tyson Fury and Jon Jones, it is best to keep in mind that the fight has several hurdles to overcome before it can even be considered. Fury is also adamant that he will only fight his contenders in the boxing ring. In any case, the unpredictability of heavyweight bouts in either sport makes it almost impossible to determine who will come out on top.
