Chris Hemsworth’s Resistance Band Workout: A Review
Chris Hemsworth has always been in amazing shape, but his transformation to play Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe required him to up his fitness game. While many may think it was due to his trusty hammer, Mjölnir, it turns out that resistance bands were his secret weapon. In an interview with Women’s Health, Hemsworth’s personal trainer, Luke Zocchi, revealed that they used resistance bands instead of weights for a quick pump on set. Curious to see how effective it was, we tried Hemsworth’s resistance band workout and here’s what we found out.
What are Resistance Bands and How Do They Work?
Resistance bands are elastic strips of rubber that provide resistance to the body when exercising. As you stretch a band, the amount of resistance it provides increases. This means that each band gives you a spectrum of resistance levels depending on the stretch. According to Zocchi, one of the benefits of using resistance bands is that they keep constant tension on the muscles throughout the whole movement of an exercise compared to dumbbells. This constant tension helps in isolating muscles and putting them under stress throughout the full range of motion. The bands also offer endless exercise options to target arms, legs, or glutes, making them a versatile piece of equipment to use.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Resistance Band Workout
Zocchi shared Hemsworth’s resistance band workout, which involves a warm-up and seven exercises for the workout:
Warm-up:
- Push-ups (5 reps)
- Bent Over Row (5 reps each arm)
- Squats (5 reps)
- Tricep Curl (5 on each arm)
- Bicep Curl (5 reps for each arm)
- Reverse Lunges (5 reps each leg)
- Shoulder Lateral Raise (5 reps on each side)
Workout:
- Push-ups (10 reps)
- Bent Over Row (10 reps each arm)
- Squats (10 reps)
- Tricep Curl (10 on each arm)
- Bicep Curl (10 reps for each arm)
- Reverse Lunges (10 reps each leg)
- Shoulder Lateral Raise (10 reps on each side)
Our Experience with the Resistance Band Workout
To try Hemsworth’s workout, we grabbed a heavier and a lighter band and started with the warm-up. We found that the resistance bands work the muscles right from the first rep just like a set of dumbbells. For the squats and reverse lunges, we used a mini band looped above our knees to engage our glutes, and we found it quite effective. The workout itself was quick but efficient, taking around 20 minutes to complete all three sets. We felt like we had a good full-body workout in a short amount of time, making it an easy routine to fit into a busy schedule. Plus, part of the beauty of resistance bands is that they are easy to store and carry, making them convenient to use at home or on vacation.
Final Thoughts
Chris Hemsworth’s use of resistance bands in his workout routine proved to be effective since it can easily make bodyweight workouts more challenging and efficient, particularly targeting muscles that are not easily activated with freestyle exercises.
