Argentina vs England LIVE! Rugby World Cup 2023 match stream, latest score and updates today
Steve Borthwick’s side will hope to take third place in Pumas rematch at the Stade de France
By Nick Purewal | George Flood
This evening, England will conclude their Rugby World Cup campaign with a bronze final, or third-place play-off, against Argentina in Paris. After a heartbreaking last-minute loss to defending champions South Africa in the semi-finals, this is not a game that Steve Borthwick’s side will have wanted to play in. However, their presence in this fixture is a testament to the progress they have made during the tournament.
Borthwick has chosen a mix of experienced and young players for this match. Ben Youngs, the record caps holder, will be making his final appearance for England. Additionally, Marcus Smith, Henry Arundell, and Sam Underhill will all be starting. Tom Curry, who made allegations against Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi, will also retain his place in the team.
In their Pool D opener last month, England defeated Argentina 27-10 in Marseille, despite Curry receiving an early red card. They will be hoping for a repeat performance tonight.

- TRY! Carreras weaves in as Argentina take lead
- TRY! Cubelli gives Pumas hope before break
- TRY! Earl scores after early Farrell penalty
With 74 minutes on the clock, Argentina has a scrum inside the England half following a head wound for Underhill. This is a crucial scrum for England.
England is under pressure as time is running out. Argentina gets a scrum after Ludlam’s illegal work at the maul. However, Lawrence’s great defensive read disrupts Sanchez’s play.
The final 10 minutes of this third-place play-off promise a grandstand finish.
Here are some highlights from the match so far:
- Blistering response from Dan to atone for his crucial missed tackle
- A look back at the sublime Santiago Carreras try
With 68 minutes on the clock, England is caught offside, giving Argentina an opportunity to reduce the six-point deficit. They opt for an easy kick in front of the posts, bringing them within three points of England.
Owen Farrell’s penalty brings the England lead back up to six points with 15 minutes remaining.
As we enter the final quarter of the game, both teams are lacking fluency. England‘s attack, in particular, has been predictable, and Argentina‘s defense has handled it well. England needs to use its playmakers more effectively and involve the likes of Arundell off the wing. Despite their strong performance in the tournament, England‘s attack still falls short of expectations.
In a change to the Pumas lineup, Creevy replaces Montoya as hooker, and Sanchez comes on for Santiago Carreras at fly-half.
The match continues with no significant developments.
