Ezra Miller’s Troubles: Accountability and Mental Health
The Delayed Release of “The Flash”
The Flash film, set to be released in 2023, has been brewing for years. Originally, the film was set to be released in 2018 but was delayed due to issues in the production who underwent a series of directors, clashes in actors’ diaries, and then the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, the film is set to be released on June 16 in the UK. However, a series of scandals surrounding the lead star, Ezra Miller, has marred the production process, leaving audiences wondering about the accountability of celebrities in Hollywood.
The Incidents
In March 2022, Ezra Miller was arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment in Hawaii, where Miller yelled obscenities at a 23-year-old woman singing karaoke and grabbed her mic before lunging at a 32-year-old man playing darts. The bar owner tried to calm Miller down multiple times, but he failed to do so, leading to the police being called. Miller posted bail before the charges were dropped.
In April 2022, Miller was arrested for second-degree assault after throwing a chair at a gathering in Hawaii, striking a 26-year-old woman who was left with a half-inch cut on her forehead.
Native American Activist Speaks Out
In June 2022, there was uproar when an 18-year-old ran away from home with Miller. However, a Native American activist, Tokata Iron Eyes, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, spoke out in defense of the actor. Iron Eyes pushed back against criticism of Miller, saying that he had only provided “loving support and invaluable protection.” However, Tokota’s parents Chase and Sara lodged a protection order against Miller on behalf of their child, but it was eventually withdrawn.
Mental Health Issues and Accountability
In August 2022, Miller opened up about “complex mental health issues” and revealed they were seeking treatment. The revelation followed Miller being charged with burglary of a home in Vermont, New England. In January 2023, Miller pleaded guilty to trespassing in a deal that saw the burglary charges dropped and committed to random drug tests and ongoing mental-health treatment.
Editorial and Advice
The incidents involving Miller bring up the important topic of accountability in Hollywood. Celebrities are public figures who have a significant influence on their fans, and they should be held accountable for their actions. At the same time, we must also acknowledge the importance of mental health and seek to provide support for those who need it.
It is important for celebrities, especially those who are in the public eye, to recognize their role in society and their responsibility to set a positive example for their fans. It is also crucial for them to seek help when they need it and to be open about their struggles with mental health.
As for audiences, we should demand accountability from the celebrities we support and not look the other way when they behave poorly. By doing so, we can help create a safer and more responsible entertainment industry and society as a whole.
