Mario Balotelli Recreates Iconic Celebration Before Champions League Final with BT Sport
Italian striker, Mario Balotelli, has been announced as a pundit by BT Sport ahead of the Champions League final between his former clubs; Manchester City and Inter Milan. The 32-year-old, who is currently playing for Swiss side Sion, found fame, not just through his gamely performances, but also his antics off the pitch; including fireworks incident at his home, a fall out with Jose Mourinho while at Inter, and alleged training ground fights with teammates.
The ‘Why Always Me?’ Moment
One of his most memorable moments came in 2011, when Manchester City played the Manchester United derby at Old Trafford, and Balotelli scored their opening goal. In celebration, Balotelli lifted his shirt revealing a message on his undershirt that read, “Why Always Me?” which sparked a hail of media frenzy and publicity. In a recent interview with BT Sport, Balotelli revealed that the message was a direct response to the negative media coverage that he had been receiving.
A Foot in Both Camps
Balotelli, who has been dubbed a ‘bad boy’ by the media, has a foot in both camps for the Champions League final, having played for both Manchester City and Inter Milan. BT Sport introduced Balotelli as part of their team, in a social media message that read, “He’s here, and he’s perfect,” and included a clip of Balotelli staring into the camera and uttering his iconic phrase, ‘Why always me?’
Philosophical Discussion on Dealing with Stress
As part of the build-up to the game, BT Sport asked Balotelli how he prepares for such a big game. The former Liverpool striker responded, “The less I think about the match, the better it is. For sure, you have a lot of emotions. You have to deal with them, otherwise you have a problem when you play. Everyone has a different way of dealing with stress.”
Editorial and Advice
Many footballers often face intense pressure, and finding a way to deal with this stress is undoubtedly one of the most significant challenges that they face during their careers. While Balotelli’s response to dealing with the pressure of playing in such a big game might be different from others, his philosophy to deal with emotions and not overthink things can also be applied to everyday life. One can argue that Balotelli’s iconic celebration and his presence as a pundit before the game has added a new level of excitement to the game and will undoubtedly be keenly watched by fans on both sides.
